My father and ceiling fans.....

If you know me, you may remember the story of my parents as they were leaving after one of their visits, my dad said not goodbye but rather, "You have some dust on your ceiling fan." I thought it was very strange at the time. Who says this to someone as they leave their home? Who notices dust on a ceiling fan? Maybe if you're looking for it I guess. It wasn't like I had stalactites hanging down!

Anyway it happened again, only this time, 5 minutes before he left, he decided to get on a chair and actually wipe off my ceiling fan.

I love my parents and at this point, I'm choosing to love their odd behavior rather than stress about how clean my house is. I've always taken the approach my house is "clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy." It doesn't smell, you won't get sick, but you will find cobwebs and clutter here and there. Our Sleepyhouse is lived in and loved.

My parents will be back next weekend to share Easter with us. Any suggestions for keeping my father busy and away from climbing on my furniture?

LOL - I would just put a duster in his room and let him get it done for you! Too cute.

Your house sounds like ours. I am SO uncomfortable when I walk into someone's house and feel like I should take off my shoes and not sit down. We live in our house, and the dust accumulates occasionally, and there might be a cobweb in the corner of the ceiling.... but put your feet up and relax.

Yeah, if he wants to clean house, let him at it LOL.

I know what you mean about your house. I tell anyone who visits to leave me house spiders alone. I know they are there, they are not uninvited guests, but live here. Plus they are doing a job and are harmless to humans.

lol Yah, ceiling fans can accumulate the dirt and mine are the perfect example of how they do just that. lol

If you want to get some good camera shots and stories to share with your blogbuddies leave everything as is and let your father go to work! lol

Our home is lived in and we have dust bunnies to prove that we also have animals. :o) I don't think I'll ever have the perfect home, but if I do I think that'll mean I have too much time on my hands, no family lounging around and I'll have no pets...........

P.S. I just glanced QUICKLY over to my ceiling fan and it needs cleaning. Think your dad will drive south to work on mine? :o)

LOL That's so funny. I'd give him a feather duster + turn him loose. ;)

With my MIL it is fingernails. We have a fingernail inspection before she gets here. Some people are quirky like that. Like Kim said, I'd give him a duster and give him something to do. lol.

Sometimes people do things that would make you confused and wonder first, but perhaps with time you might understand better - this goes a little deeper and is more a metaphor, but anyway.

And you actually got a picture taken of it? Very nice!

Thats funny, I would stock up on micro fiber cloths before he returns and tell him if he doesn't like the dust he can dust it. Sounds like he enjoyed dusting your fan and now you don't have to clean it

We are lived in also and I don't stress that our home isn't like those designer homes on tv

Well, I can see his cleaning it off as a way of looking out for you and caring enough to help you ....

If my father would have said that it would have been followed with a 9 hour lecture on dust particles and what a womans role is at home and how it should be done .... My grandfather though used to do this when he came to visit my mom though, he was a caring man who cared in ways my father did not.

Not that long ago my grandfather had to be helped down from his roof because he insisted on cleaning out the gutters as he has done every year since owning that house, except this time his body didn't want to cooperate with him any longer. I guess men around that age are alot alike in that manner.

My grandmother was like this with fingernails. It stemmed from her childhood in Sweden where if you showed up with dirt under your nails you were sent home.

That's so funny! I'm liable to do that at my mom's...so I can't say too much about your dad! lol

I'd invest in a long-handled duster thingey.....mind is blank, can't think of the name...and he can get down all the cobwebs while he's there. (And you can take pictures of it.) ; )

I think I dust my ceiling fans about once a year - they do get rather fuzzy. lol!

I had a friend who had a sign in the entryway that read something to the effect of, "if you've come to see me, welcome; if you've come to see my house, please make an appointment." I always liked that sentiment. Our house is lived in too.
