Trying to keep our cheeks rosy.....

Sorry I wasn't around yesterday. We were too busy watching history unfold and enjoying our snowy world. The temperatures are up to safe levels so we're outside enjoying as much as we can. Its the only thing you can do to beat cabin fever, bundle up and get out there!

I felt really upbeat yesterday for some reason. I think it was the speeches. I particularly liked Rev. Joseph E. Lowery's benediction which moved me to tears and laughter. I think he stole the entire show with that ending!

I know some people purposely avoided watching the inaugural, which is a shame. Even if President Obama wasn't your first choice, the message was uplifting. No one person can dig us out of the mess we're in. We each have to work for it. We have to be willing to push on, regardless of our differences.

Today we're keeping the chill out grooving with baking cookies, washing blankets, building Legos and playing games. I'm also trying to create decorations for DS's upcoming birthday, but this is very difficult with him being around. I'm afraid he won't be surprised much.

I read through Carol Alt's Eating In The Raw. I can certainly agree eating fresh, raw fruits and veggies can be great for you, but I don't think I could ever eat raw meat. No offense to raw foodists. Its just, I could never get past thinking I'd be ingesting a tape worm or worse.

I should back up and explain why I read Eating In The Raw in the first place. I wasn't thinking of becoming a raw foodie. It was DS13 who asked me why people started cooking food in the first place. I told him anthropologists aren't certain, but its a guess that perhaps some game meat landed too close to the fire. Or perhaps their food source froze so they decided to thaw it over the fire and discovered, hey, that tastes pretty good! It was also probably realized that cooking and drying could preserve food as well. This is a good thing when you don't have a Piggly Wiggly down the block.

Anyway, I'm too much of a baker to want to give up anything heated over 100 degrees. Call me a carb addict, but I'll take fresh, whole wheat bread over dehydrated crackers.

Speaking of baking and being an addict, I can't stop making batches of chocolate cookies with white chips. I got the recipe from the back of the Nestle bag. I sent the remaining cookies with DH to work, but all it took was DS13 asking, "Where did those awesome cookies go," and I'm baking more. I'll have to ask him to hide them from me. Of course I asked my younger son to do this with my peanut butter, whole wheat cookies, and I discovered them weeks later under his bed. EWW!!

Well, its time to get my hands all covered in paint. Stay warm and stay positive!

From a historic perspective alone, I am surprised people didn't watch the inauguration. It was history in the making. OK so I am a bit of a history geek...what can I say?

I spent my day watching the inauguration also. His speech was inspiring and l feel good about his presidency.
I couldn't eat raw meat either. E-coli, salmonella, and other things are just to prevalent.
I baked cookies at Christmas and still have some left. Guess l should just toss them lol

I had tons of running to do yesterday and today, It was actually nice to have it be 30 outside instead of -10. I hear it is not suppposed to last though :O( I am good with 30, but really dislike it lower than that.

Ok,don't be mad, but I did not watch anything on the tv. I refuse. I just see a wolf in sheeps clothing. Too many people with too high of expectations that are going to falter. One man can not be the savior unless he is Christ. It will not make for good. I do not see others helping - this nation is full of talkers, not do-ers. It was proven when gas prices skyrocketed - - no none would stop buying ! No one makes the stand - they all just crab about it.

I LUV eating raw food .. well - veggies. I eat them alot and feel better when I do. I wish I cold do it more but sometimes I just get the itch to eat junk ! I LUV baked goods too.. bad bad bad ... yes - they are what gets me the worst !

Hope that you have a good night, don't get too messy ! :O)

Didn't watch it live, but saw it on the news. Too busy at work. Inaugurations are always inspiring, no matter which party won. I am American before I am a member of a political party. We have to stand behind our President. I wish him great success in all he will try to accomplish.

Can't do the raw foods either. Crunchy veggies and fruit- okay - but not all the time. I can't do raw fish or raw meat.

Those cheeks look mighty rosy to me! We will have high 20s tonight - unheard of and hopefully not again this year!! Brrrrrrr!!

I agree with many things I heard was spoken in the speech of Mr. Obama; the sum-up is that America should work as a team and not two groups one against another, because only by working as one team things could be made better. Now, that makes sense too, doesn't it? If I think of Finns too, if there were two parts and we set against each other I bet it couldn't cause anything else but trouble.

Isn't it a nice feeling to feel upbeat sometimes? I've been there a lot these days. I hope you continue having a good week!

I was asleep. It's amazing how much coverage there was down here over the whole thing, though--more hoopla than when Australia's PM was elected and took office last year. Not really a big thing for me---don't think I watched any of the previous inaugurations either. Just..."get on with it" is usually my attitude.

I eat raw food as much as possible. But not meat--except for sushi, when I can afford it!

Cookies are evil.
