Out with the old, in with the new....

Its official. I'm becoming an old person. You know, the kind of person who doesn't bother to follow technological advances. Remember how your parents never bothered to figure out how to set the clock on the VCR and your grandparents couldn't figure out how to use a TV remote?

DH bought a new cell phone. The old one worked fine, but it wasn't cool. It didn't flip open. LOL! We gave DS12, DH's old phone.

Now I've had this same old phone for a year now. You would think I knew everything about this phone and how to use it right? DS12 had DH's old phone for about 5 minutes and he discovered it has a voice recording feature. I had no idea it could do this!

Maybe its because I'm just not a gadget person? Maybe its because DS12 is? How did this kid figure out this phone so quickly without an instruction manual? (BTW- I did read the manual and don't recall the voice recording feature.)

If DS12 wants to actually make calls & text, he will have to purchase his own prepaid units. For now he's just enjoying the games and voice recording feature.

I have to admit, once I saw DH's new phone, I did get a bit jealous. I don't really use a cell phone that often so my cheapo TracFone works for me, but once I tried DH's, mine didn't seem very satisfactory. I reminded him we live in a marital property state! :) What's his is mine! LOL!

We just got unlimited texting on our phones the other day. I was amazed that within 5 minutes DD11 was texting me a voice recording and had already set up her AIM and was im'ing her sister! No instructions... just did it!

Kids like like to play with gadgets and they'll spend time checking things out. We just like to know the basics. LOL I had the same phone for about three years and then upgraded. I had that phone for a couple of years and then wanted a Razr. Got one for Xmas 2006. I still have that phone. Some folks change phones all of the time. Crazy to me.
Lots of folks used TM. Unlimited isn't on our plan and I have a friend who sends out mass texts when she's contacting folks in the girl scout troop.
Found a widget online which allows you to text someone FREE of charge from your computer. Downside is they can't reply back to you.

l recently had to get my grandson show me how to get a text message. It was from an advertisor so he didn't open it and l still don't know how. I can dial out, answer and get the phone #;s programmed in it. Don't know how to use the DVD portion of my VCR. Most of what I know about computers my granddaughter taught me. I blame it on being blonde and almost 70. Hope DH enjoys his new phone. Wait til the kids want to use the phone. Pre paid is good. How's the job hunting going?

It has always amazed me how fast kids can figure out electronics. I have to read the manual. lol

Our kids sure do live in a much different world than we grew up in. I can remember we didn't have a vcr or a microwave when we were growing up and there was no computers either. There wasn't even computers until you reached high school. My kids always say I must of lived in the dark ages when I was growing up, LOL. Than I remind them their grandmother grew up with basically nothing like we have now - no tv, no phones in the house and we they were kids (my mom) they were so poor they lived in a cold water flat which meant no hot water and you shared a bathroom with your neighbor. We are very fortunate to live in our modern times
