Decisions

I've decided I still haven't decided. Lack of excitement about any of the players in the arena has left me pondering what I'll do come November. I'm not a party girl, in this Barbie world.

As I was riding in to my appointment this morning, I was listening to "Make A Difference" by, yes, of course, Blind Melon. It came to me, why am I asking someone to step up and make changes rather than making those changes myself?

Its not that I think I should be president, although the thought of writing in my name on the ballot surfaced. I just realized that I shouldn't complain about feeling so powerless in this election process, and so hopeless about the prospect of our nation turning things around.

I will embrace my right to vote, but I will also recognize doing so does not mean I should expect my candidate to make the world a better place for all. We really need to make a difference ourselves and to quote the best band in the world;

"There's a few people spinning gold
Some just try to save their soul
But I wonder what to do
Money bills and secret guns
I know I can't help everyone
But I can take on one or two
That's what I'll do"

So, I pledge to try to make a difference in the lives of people within my reach. I can take on one or two.

Yes, you are right. If each individual would make the choice to make a positive difference, the US could really shine. :)

it always seems that no matter who ends up in the exec nothing really evenr changes, but we should all try to vote from the heart and pray for the best.

Yes, that's for sure. Politicians can promise this and promise that..........doesn't mean it'll get done.....:(

I know this isn't exactly what you are talking about but what you said reminds me of what Obama has said, "I'm asking you to believe. Not just in my ability to make real change in Washington...I'm asking you to believe in yours."
I know that politics and politicians are frustrating, but in my opinion, voting in this election really does matter and will make the world a better place of worse place, depending on your opinion of what a better place or worse place is...the war will continue or not...people will continue to not have health care or people will work towards changing that...college will continue to be unaffordable for many or people will work towards changing that...a woman's right to choose will remain that or become illegal...we will continue to be hated by the rest of the world or perhaps begin to mend our image a bit, which will in turn make us safer...I could go on and on but you get the point. I don't think that Obama or anyone can do everything. There are a lot of checks and balances in our system for good reason but some of these major issues will absolutely be decided by the next president. When I think of who McCain would put on the Supreme court and what rights they will take away from people, I can't sleep at night.
Just my humble opinion.
