The hummingbird feeder is hanging but so far I haven't been able to catch anyone drinking. We came close today. Sitting by this computer I could hear the buzz. I slowly turned my head and saw a hummer contemplating taking a taste. I remained still, but he still didn't drink. He just eyed up the feeder thinking about it, and then flew off. Do you think he'll eventually come back and actually drink from it?

He will be back, and may bring the rest of his family/friends with him! Keep us posted!
We have a drinker!!! 3 feet from my head, while working at the computer I saw him enjoying a sip. He was not the Ruby throated bird I saw before but this bird had an entire dark head, and lighter brown body. According to my internet research, the only species documented in Wisconsin are the Ruby, the Rufous, Anna's Hummingbird and the Green Violet hummingbird. I truly believe I saw a Black Chinned species, but supposedly those are only common the west coast. I'll have to really try and snap a photo next time. Do the Ruby throated birds mature with a red throat but begin as juveniles with a brown head?
He just came back again! Definitely a dark head with a white ring around his collar, no red on him. Could it be a female? Of course he/she flew away when I grabbed for my camera.
He will be back.
Glad to see that he returned. They are so neat to watch
Hooray! S/he will be back!
Yay for the drinker!:o)
Could definitely be a female if you saw a white neck. :o)
