I'll give you a 5 gallon bucket and a 3 gallon bucket. You can have all the water you need, but nothing else. How can you measure exactly 4 gallons of water into the 5 gallon bucket?

No volume indicators are marked on the buckets! Flex that brain a little more smartie!

Can you believe this is a question sometimes asked in interviews? I'm trying to help DH, reading the book 48 Days To The Job You Love, and I came across this interview question. I had to think it through, but when I asked my husband, he quickly used a movie reference that helped him get the answer!! I guess this was covered in Die Hard 3! Another example of how learning happens all the time, even when watching action movies. :)

Answer- fill the 3 gallon bucket and then dump it into the 5 gallon bucket. Fill the 3 gallon bucket again and pour carefully into the 5 gallon bucket until the 5 gallon bucket is filled. You should now have 1 gallon left in the 3 gallon bucket. Dump out the filled 5 gallon bucket. Pour the 1 gallon remaining from the 3 gallon bucket into the now empty 5 gallon bucket. Fill up the 3 gallon bucket and pour the 3 gallons into the 5 gallon bucket, currently holding 1 gallon. You will then have 4 gallons in the 5 gallon bucket.
