Anyone Know How To Get Blood Out?

Getting ready for work at 5:00am, I walk into the kitchen and find Yumi sitting innocently, staring up at me. Directly in front of her is a little, although chunky, ball of shivering fur.

"Get it Yumi!! GET IT!" She still just stares at me.

I'm afraid to move for fear the critter will sprint. I call out to DH & DS. The three of us stare down waiting for either Yumi to pounce or this mouse to run. Yumi casually walks around the mouse to where her treats are kept.

"Aren't you going to feed me?"

I'm amazed the mouse doesn't run. DH grabs a towel and throws it over the poor thing. It still doesn't run. He carries it outside. Its shaking but still doesn't try to get away. I head off to work hoping the critter will eventually scamper away.

I come home at lunch and to my dismay, there is now a frozen mousicle in my front yard.

In the daylight, we could now see the blood on the carpet. Yumi must have had a good old time with that poor mouse before we even got up. No wonder she just looked at me, wanting her breakfast. She had her taste of mouse sushi and decided she'd wait for dry kibble instead.

I'm hoping this is the same mouse we saw last fall. One morning I had gotten up to discover little beatie eyes staring at me from on top of the curtains. Yumi must have scared the poor thing up the drapes and onto the curtain rod.

DH & I tried to capture it, but it jumped in the wrong direction, falling to the floor. It then scampered across the kitchen floor, and my fat cat couldn't keep up with it. It ran under the stove. We took the stove apart trying to find it, to no avail. We set out a trap with chocolate and peanut butter, but it never took the bait.

On the plus side, I've never seen droppings so "Jerry" must have been living where we couldn't see him, until our "Tom Girl" Yumi found him. I just hope Jerry didn't have roommates, or we'll have to switch to hard flooring. I'm having trouble getting the blood out from the carpet.

Hydrogen peroxide and cold water

I have no idea what will take it out. Maybe you could rent one of those carpet shampooers if the peroxide doesn't work.

It won't bleach out a dark, navy carpet?

If I get blood on my clothes I spray it with hairspray, then after its washed the blood is gone but on a carpet I have no clue. Good luck though.

Remember on carpet DAB, dont rub...

I found this.. though I never have tried using salt.
"on 9/21/2008 I tried torch6576's suggestion on a blue cotton t-shirt that had fresh blood on it. I put hydrogen peroxide on the stain, put the salt on, waited 15 minutes, came back and the salt was red. I brushed the salt off and washed it. No stain. Thanks!.. "

Poor Yumi, the story made me laugh! It also reminded me of something my grandma once experienced.

She had two cats for 13 and 19 years. In those years, they always went to the summer cottage in May and came back in August. They stayed there for the whole summer.
One night she woke up and went out for a regular cigarette she had every night around four a.m. She was confused when she saw one of the cats sitting at the dining table and there was some black "spot" on the floor. She bent and picked it... it was warm and... it was a bat!
The cat had gone to the attic that isn't in use but there's a bat nest every summer. Bless, he'd brough one in to the cottage. You bet my grandma was close to a heart attack, as it was still alive.

And the cat, bless him, got to stay in for the rest of the night, arrested (lol).

Was getting ready to recommend hydrogen peroxide, but see everyone else has. It DOES work.

LOL! I am guessing Yumi wanted a treat 'cause she had already done her job and protected the house from that furry critter.

I am not sure what Trystan would do, if he found a mouse. My guess is he'd sit and watch it and follow it around the house, but wouldn't do much else. And, Fannie, in her younger days, I am confident she would have dispatched it quickly. However, now that she is such an elderly lady, I am not sure she'd do much.

To get the blood out, pour hydrogen proxide onto the stain. It should bubble the blood up to the surface of the carpet and you should be able to wipe it away with a damp rag. You may have to use some carpet cleaner if it's been sitting for a while.
