More grossing out, not relaxing....

Last night we watched Monsters Inside Me on Animal Planet. It was the first and last time we'll watch that show! To my horror, I learned there is a parasite carried in raccoon scat that can lead to worms eating your brain. Its rare, but the eggs can lie dormant in dirt and after being ingested, hatch. The worms usually stick to hanging around your guts, but as this rare case featured on last night's show proved, can move to your brain. It was heartbreaking watching a baby struggle to survive this parasitic brain worm! Terrible show!

Now I'm a bit freaked as to how I'm going to clean up the raccoon scat I discovered in our yard yesterday. (photo) Ignorance is bliss. I preferred not knowing we have raccoons, which have an 80% chance of carrying a potentially deadly parasite.

I should be feeling good. Its kind of like a Friday today, but I'm not. Aside from the parasite invested raccoon poop, I'm on edge because DH's boss hasn't made a decision yet regarding our health insurance. I'm also not looking forward to seeing extended family, which is terrible of me to say, I know, but they don't relax me. They pick on me. They'll say I'm too sensitive, but its not a balanced bullying. I'm just not in the mood to go through this trial.

I will have to set aside these worries and turn my focus to that which brings me joy. Tonight is the grand re-opening of our little Lake Leota. The village is planning a fireworks display on the water. I hope I can get home from work in time to see some of it.

DH doesn't have to work tomorrow! I'll have to griddle up a batch of Mancakes tomorrow morning!

You are right to focus on the joyful things in your life!! If something is stealing my joy, I try to avoid it or get rid of it!! Life is just too short! Hopefully your extended family won't be around for too many hours.

I don't even want to think about most of your blog!! Glad I haven't watched that show on TV. Ignorance IS bliss!! Latex gloves and a plastic bag for that raccoon mess in your yard? My first thought was a hose, but the water would probably just wash the worms into the ground.... ewwwwww!

Joy, joy, joy..... thinking of joy. EnJOY those mancakes tomorrow! We call it the "big breakfast" at our house. Happy 4th!! Hugs.

I agree..plastic gloves + plastic bag for poop. I had read somewhere that they will continue to use the same spot so I hope that's not the case.

Hope your family visit doesn't last very long.

Fireworks over the water are so pretty. We don't go out much to see them since we can see some from our street.

Try not to stress. Enjoy tomorrow with DH. Have a great holiday weekend!

I hope you get to enjoy the fireworks and have some happy time with your family. As far as the racoon poop I would be careful cleaning it up also. I wonder if there is somethng you can put on the ground that would deter them from going there all the time, maybe some vinegar

I'm with Kim on the plastic gloves and bag.

I remember when we watched some documentaries in the biology class in school about some bugs that live in your head skin... ugh, yuck! That was some nasty stuff to watch for sure.

It seems that the show really did hit you. I hope you have a better day today because it's Friday and the weekend's here. Are you having a pretty weather? We're back to the high 60's from the 90'f we've had most of the past two weeks. The Sun is still shining though. I'm going on picnic tomorrow and I'll enjoy the nice weekend which they've forecasted. It should work out just fine in the forest and nature.

You need a t-shirt that says, "PMS. Pick on me and die." ; )

I don't know why, but I can't comment on your notes, I always get an error message. : ( I had asked if earwigs were more abundant (on the monarch/earwig note) this year, because they are down here....every time we move something they come scurrying out. : P
