Our snow day....

By Friday morning, the snow was falling fast and furious. The plows hadn't come by and our street was completely snow drifted in. Thankfully DH decided not to drive to work and took the day off. He spent a great deal of it just snow blowing driveways.

I stayed in baking bread, cookies, knitting, and listening to Christmas tunes.

The boys played out in the snow until their clothes were drenched. They spent the afternoon playing video games with the Posse.

By afternoon the snow had stopped and our street was finally plowed. I don't know what our official total was, but with the plowing and drifting its almost up to our mailbox. I'm sure during the next couple of days the boys will be able to dig cool tunnels in it.

Our wonderful neighbors across the street gave us tickets to the Christmas Carol. We had never seen the stage production before. We all really enjoyed it.

I'm regretting not bringing my camera though. I didn't think taking photos would be allowed so I left it home. While sitting waiting for the show to begin, in walks this guy wearing a Santa hat and Christmas lights strung through his beard!! Around his neck he wore a garland string of tiny presents. He did turn off the beard once the show began.

On an interesting unschooling note, the woman who played the Ghost of Christmas Past, Georgina McKee, was an Unschooler! Her mom is Alison McKee, author of  Homeschooling Our Children, Unschooling Ourselves.

Today we are heading out to finish up Christmas shopping. I'll have to start wrapping tonight or I'll be overwhelmed.

Isn't it annoying to flounder and wade in the snow when the roads haven't been plowed?! It happens here too sometimes but usually the roads are plowed in time and very early in the morning.
What I find really annoying is when we get snow and then it rains and the snow turns to slush. No one plows it and then we get frost and it freezes and turns to ice... it's really dangerous. I would think the city would rather spend some extra money for plowing than paying people's hospital visits, as the law says that if one falls in the street which hasn't been plowed the city is in charge. But well, I guess they would save in everything... even if there was the risk.

Doesn't Alison have a column in Homeschooling Magazine? I could have sworn I've read something from her. I really liked the article because it really spoke to the way I was about homeschooling at first. We become so institutionalized ourselves from being in public school that we really have to unlearn everything before we can help facilitate learning with our kids. Have some cocoa for me. We are off to the family Xmas party and snow is on the way. Take care.
