I can remember being around middle school age and my best friend was Sue. She was a few years older than me and that I thought, was very cool! We spent an entire summer memorizing every lyric and taking turns singing every song from Grease into an old fashioned tape recorder. (No kids, we didn't have video cameras let alone Youtube back then.) To this day, I can't hear the music and not sing along.
The boys knew John Travolta from the movie Wild Hogs. LOL! They couldn't get over how young he looked in Grease.
I was actually surprised the boys watched the entire movie. They usually groan at musicals. They were really into it. At the bonfire scene DS9 said, "Why is Danny being such a jerk?" We had a great discussion on why Danny was trying to look cool. DS9 thought it would have been better to dump the act and get Sandy back right there.
During the dance off they questioned, "Why would you let that guy steal away Sandy? Why would you want to dance with Cha Cha?" I'm so proud of my young men. They're going to make great husbands one day, just like their father!
DS12 wanted to know if everyone smoked back then. I told him that in the 50's people didn't know how bad smoking was for you. I told him about how his grandparents smoked but they gave it up after learning it was so dangerous.
"Mom did your school have a carnival on the last day of school?"
No sweetie. High school wasn't really like that. Although I did drive away in your father's car, it didn't fly up in the air away from our singing and dancing friends. LOL!

Grease brings back lots of great memories for me too. It's one of the first records (yes remember those?) I bought... Saturday Night Fever being the very first. Ah, yes, John Travolta! I always wanted Danny to change for Sandy and for Sandy to stay sweet and inocent.
I haven't watched Grease in years. I originally saw it at the drive-in. Just thinking about it brings back tons of memories. That's great that your kids enjoyed it. Have a great day!
Grease is one of Carly's favorite movies!!! She listens to the cd every time she cleans her room.
For her 5th grade play they did a musical version of Deal or No Deal, where did a song from several musicals. Carly was Sandy and they sang summer lovin'. We will have to show you this weekend, if we have time!
Good for DNs!! I am sure they would never act like Danny did!
Grease is a great movie with great music. My daughter and friend used a lamp without a shade as a mike to sing You're The One That I Want. I hadn't thought about that for a long time til you mentioned singing into a tape recorder. Sure wish l had recorded them. Hope you saved that tape.
fun to watch nostalgic movies with your kids. i remember about 7 years ago when my oldest son was 12. i was flipping thru channels and saw 'Rocky' coming on. i was so excited cuz i thought he'd get a kick out of it cuz its a guy movie and all. his only comment to me was : 'Who's Rocky?'
