Sankta Lucia is a big thing in Sweden! When we were there, Dragon-tamer dressed up as a Tomte (I suppose it's like an elf really, all dressed in red with little hats) and the girls dress like angels and the most beautiful, or oldest, or tallest girl will have candles in her hair and lead the parade. There's also lots of lovely pepparkakor (gingerbread) about, so the children really look forward to it. Slightly odd, given that Lucia really has nothing to do with Sweden! (Wasn't she an Italian saint?) We have a big Ikea here in Milton Keynes so I'm trying to find out if our local Swedish community will be having a Lucia parade and singing Lucia songs there this year. I'll let you know!
