I heard you could grow potatoes in a pot and at summer's end, dump the pot to harvest the spuds. You plant your seed potato half way down the pot. As the plant grows, you keep adding soil, covering up the leaves and stem, leaving only about 3-4 inches showing at the top. I know they sell fabric bags from garden supply stores for this purpose, but trying to save money, we used what we had on hand already. I'll be sure to let you know if it works!

I see a street. Is this garden in your front yard?

Our side yard has the most southern exposure. We live on a corner.
