Anyone know how to keep wasps away from a hummingbird feeder? I've also discovered the nasty buggers trying to build a nest INSIDE of our Nyjer seed tube feeder. I don't know how I'm going to clean that out without getting stung.
Ugh!! I hate wasps! No suggestions for ya, sorry :( they've been stalking my corn and cantaloupes too!! Every time I move the plants to check for new fruit, I have to be VERY cautious.
I'm allergic to wasp stings. I keep wasp spray in two places - always ready to kill them at a moment's notice. Not sure how to preserve the bird feed, though. Good luck.
we learned that if you place like a old soda/pop bottle and fill with sugar water and hang them around the yard away from where you are not wanting them, they will go into those areas.....we hung ours in the trees in the yard and they are so far staying away from building nest under our front and back porches....
I FOUND THIS ON A SITE AND COPIED IT FOR YOU: bees or wasps persist, first try moving the feeder, even just a few feet; insects are not very smart, and will assume the food source is gone forever. They may never find it in its new location, while the hummingbirds will barely notice that it was moved. If that doesn't work, take the feeder down for a day, or until you stop seeing wasps looking for it. You'll see hummingbirds looking for it, too, but they won't give up nearly as soon as the wasps. HOPE IT HELPS.
I feel for you Dawn, I hate wasps and run when I see one lol. I also heard about the sugar water in a bottle or can, they will be more interested in that then the feeder. Can't hurt to try it.
