Weekend Update 8/24

Cross Demolition Derby off DS10's bucket list. Sunday we visited the Kenosha County Fair and spent the afternoon in the sun, watching cars smash up. I've found a new vice! I can't wait to see another one.

We ate yummy fair food, and I really appreciated the Kiwanis booth for offering such great low prices compared to the other booths around. We ended our day at G(ma)s and its a tradition, if you're in Kenosha, you have to eat pizza. Today I have to go back to healthier choices.

Saturday we watched a really good movie, Dororo. A  very interesting story of a man who makes a deal with 48 demons. In exchange for power and control of the world, he offers up the body parts of his unborn son. The baby is born missing 48 body parts, but still alive. The wicked father wants to strike it dead, but the mother, desperate to save her son, wraps the baby up and places him in a basket, floating him down the river. The baby is discovered by a Shaman who loves and cares for the baby, helping him to grow by Frankensteining body parts for him. The baby grows to a young man, and then sets off to find and destroy the 48 demons. As he slays each demon,
the Frankenstein body part is replaced with his true body part, released from the demon. Of course he eventually learns how his biological father cursed him and they eventually meet up to resolve that.

I know it sound gruesome, and yes there is violence in it, but the story was compelling, and there is comic relief. A young woman who was orphaned and forced to became a thief, joins him on his journey and through helping him, her heart is changed.

Junk food is good for the soul now and then (if not for the body!). Glad you had a great time! The movie sounds intriguing and I think I'll have to look for it now. Thanks for the tip. Have a good week!

PS-- I Googled the movie and see that it is Japanese. Did you see a dubbed version or sub-titled? Looks like it can be seen for free on-line, actually, but I don't have time to look into it right now.

Haven't been to a Fair in years. Never saw a Demolition Derby either. Sounds like lots of fun. Always good to cross something off of Bucket List. Never heard of that movie either. Sounds different. Have a great day!

Sub-titled. We never do dubbed if we can help it. We've watched several Japanese movies but I still can't get the non accent down. I always want to place emphasis on a syllable, when I shouldn't. Its difficult for me, but hopefully my boys will be better at it than I am.

We had fair food yesterday too. Spent far too much money on it, but hey ... it's only once a year. We missed the demolition derby. Maybe next year. We did get to see what was left of the cars leaving the fairgrounds as we walked back to our van.
